Andy Scott takes home the silver watering can in 2025

22 September 2025

Note, the below words are straight from Club Co-President, Paul Kitching, on the night of the Awards:

The silver watering can is awarded by the AADC Co-presidents each year for outstanding contributions to the creative communications industry in South Australia.

After being used in a television commercial by Clemenger back in 1978, the silver watering can was donated to the club by Adelaide & Wallaroo Fertiliser. And it’s been a pretty special award ever since.

It’s always a challenge to not give this away early so let’s cover off some generic things first.

This person has worked at Blacksheep, Southern Cross Austereo, Banksia Productions and Showpony. They’ve also worked at Jamshop, Channel Nine, Clemenger and KWP. In their 20s they were an actor in children’s theatre; and then from 1995 they worked in a variety of creative roles including:

  • Comedy Writer & Performer
  • Scriptwriter
  • Writer
  • Director
  • Video editor
  • Copywriter...
  • Copywriter...
  • Copywriter...
  • Senior Copywriter

And then in 2015 they became a Senior Creative.

When I asked Sarah to describe them she said - “They are humble and considered. Also insightful, respectful and quick-witted. They are not the most outspoken person in the room… but when they speak, you know that what they say is worth listening to.”

And Marty simply said - “They are the ultimate quiet achiever!”.

I think of this person as a really nice human. Someone who you warm to immediately.

And someone who has not only filled our eyes and ears with clever copywriting and creative gems for decades - but recently opened our ears and minds to the lives of so many others in our creative industry. This proactive creative —on top of doing all that they do with work and life and other hobbies— has found the time to follow another new hobby - creating a podcast.

I can hear the rumbles so I better bring this all to a head quickly.

This person has two boys who are also creatives - one of them is even here tonight.

Some of you MAY know of them as ‘Top Carrot’ from a live kids theatre show called ‘Top Carrot and El Pinko’ where they got blown up by an avocado gun. That experience over 30 years ago was the turning point that took them off stage and made them a writer! And a great writer too!

Others will know them only too well for their ‘Go A Moes’ creative, and for it not only winning 3 Effies but also creating an ear-worm that is never leaving our brain.

We’ve seen this creative up on this stage countless times picking up so many AADC Awards for his work.

And now this award-winning copywriter/creative is the host and creator of the super popular CLICK podcast.

You may have already guessed it - it’s my absolute pleasure to announce the recipient of the 2025 AADC Watering Can …

Andy Scott.
